Seasoned Rice

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Hey friends! If you’re tired of plain old white rice and looking to spice things up, this seasoned rice recipe is exactly what you need. It’s one of those recipes that you can rely on to elevate any meal without much effort. With just a few pantry staples, you’ll have a dish that’s bursting with flavor and ready to pair with just about anything. It’s quick, easy, and guaranteed to become a family favorite!

seasoned buttered rice recipe, arroz temperado

Ingredients/Substitutions:

  • Rice (long gran rice, I like to use basmati)
  • Chicken broth
Pro Tip: If you don’t have broth on hand, a good quality bouillon cube works wonders. Just dissolve the cube(s) in hot water—check the instructions on your bouillon cube to know how much water you need to reach three cups.
  • Garlic powder: If you don’t have garlic powder you can sub it with 2 garlic cloves. Just add a drizzle of olive oil to you pan, add your minced garlic, when its starts to brown you can add the rest of the ingredients and proceed with the recipe as written.
  • Paprika
  • Fresh parsley can be substituted by dry parsley, or you can skip it.
  • Thyme
  • Salt to taste
(Optional, depending on the saltiness of your broth or bouillon)
  • 2 tbsp butter

Note: Chicken broth can vary in salt content—regular, low-sodium, or no salt added. Bouillon cubes are usually on the saltier side, so make sure you adjust the amount of added salt accordingly to avoid an overly salty dish.

Directions:

This recipe couldn’t be easier! Forget about rinsing the rice—just add everything into your pan. Cook on medium heat until the liquid is fully absorbed and the rice is tender. Once it’s done, let it rest with the lid on for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Finally, stir in the butter until it’s melted and evenly distributed throughout the rice. And there you have it—a perfectly seasoned, deliciously buttery rice dish that’s ready to serve!

Storage:

Got leftovers? At home I like to store mine in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, I just pot it in the microwave with a splash of water to rehydrate. It is possible to freeze it for up to 3 months. (FYI: Some people prefer no to eat reheated rice, for fear that it can harbor bacteria called Bacillus cereus, which can cause food poisoning if the rice is not stored properly. To be safe, I like to cool my rice quickly after cooking and store it in the refrigerator within an hour. Then, reheat thoroughly before eating, and avoid keeping it in the fridge for longer than three days. I personally, never had an issue, and I don’t know anyone who has had an issue with this either.

Disclaimer: Please note that while I’ve provided general advice on rice storage, it’s important to use your own judgment when handling food. I’m not responsible for any outcomes based on the storage information provided.

FAQ:

  1. Can I use brown rice instead of white rice?
Definitely! Just keep in mind that brown rice requires a longer cooking time and more liquid. You might need to adjust the recipe slightly, but it’s a great way to make this dish even healthier.
  2. What if I want to make this rice vegetarian?
No problem! Simply swap out the chicken broth for vegetable broth or use a vegetable bouillon cube instead. You’ll still get all the savory flavors without the meat.

The secret to a ridiculously flaky pie crust? Vodk The secret to a ridiculously flaky pie crust? Vodka. 🥧🤫

This pecan pie has a buttery, flaky crust, a gooey golden filling, and plenty of toasted pecans. And instead of corn syrup, I use golden syrup for a rich, caramel-like sweetness that makes every bite irresistible.

The vodka trick helps keep the dough tender and easy to work with, without developing too much gluten. You won’t taste it in the finished crust, but you’ll notice the difference!

Save this one for your Thanksgiving dessert table. 🍂🤎

This classic Portuguese soup, made with tender potatoes, smoky chouriço, and thinly sliced collard greens, is simple, hearty, and full of comfort.

It’s the kind of recipe that brings everyone to the table, especially on a chilly fall evening. Serve it with a slice of crusty bread, and you have the coziest meal.

Some recipes are more than just food. They’re memories, traditions, and a little taste of home. ❤️

Crispy Cornmeal-Coated Liver 🤎 If liver isn’t usu Crispy Cornmeal-Coated Liver 🤎

If liver isn’t usually your thing, this might change your mind.

I soak the liver in milk first to mellow the flavour, remove the tough silver skin, season it well, then coat the pieces in cornmeal before pan-frying until golden and crisp.

It’s an old-fashioned, budget-friendly way to cook liver that my family loves — and one of those recipes that makes me appreciate nose-to-tail cooking.

Would you try liver prepared this way?

This is the kind of dinner I want when it’s cold o This is the kind of dinner I want when it’s cold out and I’ve run out of enthusiasm for dinner.

Beef, rice, butternut squash, and a little coconut milk all cooked together until the rice is creamy, the squash is soft, and the broth is deeply savory. It’s somewhere between a soup and a risotto, except you don’t have to stand there stirring it for half an hour.

I make this in the Instant Pot, which means the beef gets wonderfully tender before the rice goes in. And yes, you should eat it right away — the rice has plans of its own and will happily absorb every last drop of broth if you let it sit.

It’s cozy, unfussy, and exactly the sort of dinner that makes a regular Tuesday feel a little better.

Brazilian Pudim 🤎 It’s funny how our taste buds c Brazilian Pudim 🤎

It’s funny how our taste buds change as we get older. This was my grandmother’s favorite dessert, and I never really understood the obsession.

And now? I’m slowly becoming obsessed with it, too.

Brazilian pudim is a silky, caramel-covered custard that looks far more impressive than the effort it requires. You make a quick caramel, pour in the custard, and let it bake gently in a water bath until it has that perfect, barely-there wobble.

The best part? It’s an excellent make-ahead dessert for a special occasion. Make it the day before, let it chill overnight, and all that’s left to do is loosen the caramel, flip it onto a plate, and admire your work.

And, ideally, try to get a slice before everyone else does. 🤎#tastyrecollections #easyrecipes #pudim #pudimdeleitecondensado #brazilianfood
🎶 Working 9 to 5… 🎶 And then coming home and real 🎶 Working 9 to 5… 🎶

And then coming home and realizing you still have to figure out what everyone is eating for dinner.

This is one of those recipes I make when I want something hearty and comforting, but absolutely do not want a complicated project.

Ground beef, potatoes, butternut squash, and a few pantry staples all go into one pot and simmer away until everything is tender.

I like using frozen butternut squash for this because wrestling with a whole squash on a Tuesday night is simply not happening.

It’s cozy, budget-friendly, and makes enough for leftovers — which means tomorrow’s dinner is already halfway figured out.

Honestly, that’s the kind of recipe I want after a 9-to-5.

I’ve been making a lot of banana things lately. T I’ve been making a lot of banana things lately.

This is partly because I like banana cake, and partly because my children have a very unpredictable relationship with bananas. Sometimes they eat them all. Sometimes they look at them as if I’ve brought home a completely unfamiliar fruit.

For this one, I make a caramel first, then add the bananas and cinnamon and let them cook for another minute. The mixture goes into the batter, and the cake gets a simple cinnamon glaze.

It’s a good cake for an afternoon coffee, or for when you have a few bananas that need a little help.

And if you have children, you may want to make two.

If you need a little help getting zucchini onto th If you need a little help getting zucchini onto the table, make these crispy zucchini fritters. 🥒

They’re cheesy, golden, crispy around the edges, and soft in the middle—and they’re one of my favorite ways to make a vegetable disappear from my kids’ plates.

The trick is getting the zucchini mixture to the right consistency. Moist, but not wet. If yours looks a little looser, just add a bit more flour. And don’t skip flattening them in the pan—it gives you even more crispy edges.

Serve them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as an easy vegetable side dish. They’re also a pretty good option for the zucchini skeptics in your life. 😉

Are you a zucchini person, or do I need to convince you? 👇

It’s intensely chocolatey, packed with crunchy walnuts, and topped with a silky white chocolate coffee glaze. And somehow, the banana flavor stays subtle enough that even a banana skeptic like me absolutely loved it.

It’s also a great way to use up those very ripe bananas that somehow appear on your counter every few weeks. One bowl, pantry staples, no special equipment.

And yes, I ate an embarrassing amount of this one myself. 😅
