Make Ahead Brazilian Cappuccino

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Hey there, coffee lovers! A few days back, I shared my awesome make-ahead pumpkin spice latte recipe, and I promised to spill the beans (pun intended) on “Make-ahead Brazilian Cappuccino” I whip up at home. So, today, I’m here to deliver on that promise and drop a revelation while I’m at it. Turns out, what I’ve been making isn’t your typical cappuccino—at least not in the eyes of Canada, the US, or Italy. Wait, what?!

It’s a bit of a head-scratcher because, in these places, a cappuccino is often just coffee and milk. So why did I think a cappuccino also had the addition of chocolate and cinnamon, you ask? Well, in Brazil, that’s exactly what it has. Brazilian cappuccinos, as far as I remember, always come with a delightful twist of cinnamon and chocolate. And that, my friends, is why I’ve given my recipe a makeover, dubbing it the “Make-ahead Brazilian Cappuccino.” I mean, come on, cinnamon and chocolate have a knack for making everything better, don’t they? So, let’s dive right in and whip up some Brazilian coffee magic together!

Why should you make this recipe?

Now, I should clarify right off the bat that I’m not about to share the traditional recipe. What I’ve got for you is a game-changer.It’s a recipe that you make once, stash in your freezer, and indulge in time and time again without breaking a sweat.

Even though the cappuccino mix is stored in the freezer it does not freeze. It remains SCOOPABLE. This is easy-breezy, minimal prep stuff, folks.

This recipe takes inspiration from the Dalgona/whipped coffee trend that’s been sweeping the world, but with a Brazilian twist that’ll make you feel like you’re in a top-notch coffee shop, all from the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients:

cappuccino ingredients in bowls
  • Instant Coffee: It really needs to be instant coffee. No substitutions. Ground coffee will not work.
  • Cinnamon, cocoa powder, and sugar will add to the great taste.
  • Milk of your choice

Instructions:

mixing bowl close up
  1. In a stand mixer, toss in the sugar, coffee, and boiling water.

2.Whip it up until it’s super fluffy. This should take between 7-10 min of high speed.

3. It’s time to introduce the cocoa powder and cinnamon into the mix.

mixing cappuccino mix

3. But here’s a crucial tip: gently add them in by hand first before turning on the mixer. Trust me on this one! If you go full throttle with the mixer right away, you might end up with cocoa powder and cinnamon all over your face. So, a little hand-mixing action to start, and then turn the mixer on again for like 20 seconds to a minute

4. You’ll notice that the mixture becomes considerably less fluffy at this point. Not to worry, though—this is completely normal and expected. Now, grab a handy silicone spatula and gently scrape down the sides of the bowl. You’ll see that you can make the whole thing a bit fluffier again by bringing the mixture in from the sides. And there you have it, you’re all set!

5. Transfer it into a freezer-safe container. But hold up! Here’s a tip: remember that liquids expand when they get chilly, so don’t overfill your container. I’ve learned this the hard way, and you don’t want any mess in your freezer or cracked container lids.

6. When you’re ready to enjoy, scoop out a tablespoon of your frozen mixture and mix it with some warm milk of your choice. It remains scoopable even after being stored in the freezer!

How to serve Brazilian Cappuccino

Now, to truly savor this like a Brazilian, grab yourself a small cup (Brazilian coffee is never served in those giant American mugs; their cups are much smaller). Drop in about a tablespoon of your coffee mixture (or more, if you like it strong), then add some piping hot milk to the party. Give it a good stir, and watch that delightful foam form on top like pure magic! And here’s a pro tip: if you want the full Brazilian experience, serve it alongside a slice of cake. How about trying it with our Brazilian carrot cake recipe or even our easy banana cake recipe? The flavors will meld together in perfect harmony, making each bite of cake even more scrumptious. Give it a whirl and let me know if this is your first time sipping on a Brazilian cappuccino and what you think of it.

So, there you have it—a recipe that’s simple, easy, convenient, and, most importantly, delicious. And if you happen to know of any other cappuccino variations that I might be missing out on, don’t hold back. Share your secrets with me!

I’m pretty sure you’ll fall in love with it just like I did. It’s the perfect companion for chilly mornings or lazy afternoons when you need a comforting sip of fall.

Storage

Now, here’s the best part of this recipe—it’s incredibly convenient for those busy days or whenever those cappuccino cravings strike. You can store your coffee mixture in the freezer in an airtight container, but remember not to overfill it to leave room for expansion. This means you can have your Brazilian cappuccino whenever you want, whether it’s a brisk morning, a cozy evening, or anytime in between. It’s like having your own personal coffee shop right in your freezer! ☕️❄️

Equipment:

Before we wrap up this Brazilian cappuccino adventure, let’s talk about what you’ll need. To create the fluffy, dreamy coffee mixture, you’ll want to have a stand mixer on hand to aerate and blend the ingredients to perfection in no time. However, if you don’t have a stand mixer, don’t fret! A handheld mixer will also get the job done. You might need to mix it for a bit longer to achieve the same level of fluffiness, but the result will be equally delicious.

Unfortunately, using regular ground coffee won’t yield the same results. I

Can I use a hand mixer instead of a stand mixer?

Yes, you can definitely use a hand mixer if you don’t have a stand mixer. It might require a bit more effort, but it’ll do the job.

Are there substitutions for any of the ingredients?

Feel free to experiment! You can use different types of milk, such as almond or oat milk, and try different cocoa powder varieties or spices.

How long can I store the coffee mixture in the freezer?

You can store the coffee mixture in the freezer for several weeks without any issues. Just ensure it’s in an airtight, freezer-safe container to maintain freshness.

Do I need to let the coffee mixture thaw before using it?

You don’t need to thaw it. Simply take out the desired amount, and stir it with hot milk. It should dissolve easily.

What’s the best way to enjoy this Brazilian Cappuccino?

To savor it like a true Brazilian, use a small cup (Brazilian coffee cups are smaller). Add about a tablespoon (adjust to taste) of the coffee mixture, pour in some boiling milk, stir, and watch the milk foam form on top like magic!
