Table of Contents
Equipment:
- Air Fryer
- Ziplock bag or food processor for crushing cornflakes
- Food processor or grater
- meat thermometer
Ingredients:
- 1/2 an Onion
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1/4 cup of parsley: you can use green onion instead if you prefer
- 1/2 cup of Oat flour
- 1 egg
- 1 peeled and chopped carrot
- 1 tbsp ground chia seeds and 1 tbsp ground flax seeds (optional): I like to add these for their nutritional value, but, you can totally skip this if you do not want to include them.
- Salt to taste (around 1 tbsp)
- 3/4 cup of Cornflakes (for that extra crunch): If you just want a regular burger, you can skip this as well. Without the cornflakes, your burger won’t be crispy, but it will still taste great!
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1tsp Onion Flakes
- Olive oil cooking spray
- 4 Hamburger buns plus your favorite toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomatoes etc.
Directions:
- In a food processor, blend onions, herbs, egg, until finely minced.
2. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the egg, oat flour, salt, seeds if using, and ground chicken. Mix thoroughly.
3. Divide the mixture into four parts, wet your hands slightly to prevent sticking, and shape the burger patties.
4. Crush cornflakes in a Ziplock bag or food processor, add it to a medium size bowl together with the paprika and the garlic powder. Coat each patty in it for that crispy exterior.
5. Place chicken patties in the air fryer basket, avoiding overlapping. Spray with olive oil and air fry it.
6. When your patties are looking golden brown, turn them, spray with some more olive oil and continue air frying until the other side is also golden brown. At this point your burger are likely done, but it is best to check the internal temperature is safe to eat ( 165°F (74°C).
Note:
Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches since you might not be able to spread out four patties in a single layer without overlapping your patties.
Tip:
Wet Hands for Easy Shaping: When shaping your chicken burger patties, dampening your hands makes the process a breeze. Ground chicken mixtures can be sticky and challenging to work with, but a touch of water prevents the mixture from adhering to your hands.
How to Do It: Before shaping each patty, lightly wet your hands under running water. The moisture creates a barrier, allowing you to shape the mixture into perfect burgers without it sticking to your hands.
Why It Matters:Wet hands not only ease the shaping process but also contribute to a smoother, more uniform patty. This simple trick ensures that your burgers maintain their shape and don’t end up sticking to your hands, making the preparation more efficient and enjoyable.
Pro Tip: Keep a small bowl of water nearby to refresh your hands as needed during the patty-shaping process. It’s a small step that makes a big difference in creating the ultimate crispy and flavorful chicken burgers.
Substitutions and Variations:
Feel free to customize! Swap ground chicken for ground turkey and add your favorite herbs/seasonings.
Storage:
Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. To reheat, use the airfryer for a crispy revival.
