How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Plantains

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe plantain black spots or fully black is perfect
  • 1 tablespoon butter plus more if needed
  • 1 teaspoon sugar for the pan
  • 2 tablespoon sugar for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or more according to taste
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.

  • Peel the plantain, then slice it lengthwise into three even strips.

  • Melt butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.

  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sugar over the melted butter and add the plantain slices in a single layer. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and softened.

  • Remove from the pan and immediately sprinkle or dip into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Optional but recommended: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

The riper the plantain, the sweeter and softer it will be—look for mostly black skin.
Adjust the sugar and cinnamon to your taste. This recipe is flexible and forgiving!
